Strike A Light create events that people never imagined would or could happen in their city. They tell people’s stories through performance and create brilliant participation opportunities for young people.

Based in Gloucester, Strike A Light work with a diverse community of people, making sure that the people they work with, the shows they programme and the companies they support reflect this.

Strike A Light believe that the arts can change lives and that everyone, regardless of background and circumstance, should be given opportunities to watch, make and participate.

So far, Strike A Light have welcomed thousands of audience members, supported dozens of performers and companies to create new shows and given hundreds of young people the chance to take part in arts activities – often for the first time.

Audiences have danced on rooftops, made a meal for 100 people. Been part of a National Theatre show,  explored Gloucester’s housing estates with a group of teenagers. Become part of a flash mob, eaten fish and chips while young people performed a beatbox show. And watched high quality national touring work in empty shops, churches, community centres, schools and Gloucester streets.

Strike A Light programme high quality shows all year round – including a Christmas show, Rooftop Festival in the summer and supporting our sister festival in the Matson Estate: GL4.

Strike A Light support companies and solo performers to create and tour new shows. And provide opportunities for people at the start of their art careers to develop their skills. They offer rehearsal space, funding, workshops and advice too.

Strike A Light also run a youth theatre and offer weekly dance workshops for young people as well as community projects, in-school projects and outreach activity linked to performances.
